x⁴ = x·x·x·x

So: x⁶ / x⁴ = (x·x·x·x·x·x) / (x·x·x·x) = x·x = x² (Cancelling out like factors)

Or: you can subtract exponents: x⁶ / x⁴ = x^{6 - 4} = x²
