Oh, also be careful with the 'factorial' symbol.  9!=1*2*3*4*5*6*7*8*9 = 362,880

3(X-8)=9 

divide both sides by 3

x-8=3

add 8 to both sides

x=11

The equation=3(X-8)=9 replace x with 11=3(11-8)=3 now multiply whats left=3*3=9!
