Just use the calculator to take the 4th root of both sides....

\(\sqrt[4]{x^4}\)  =  \(\sqrt[4]{318}\)

x =  +- 4.22286

Root 4 of a number is the same as the number rooted twice.

Take 24=16 as an example.
