H = 0 when he smacks the water in a big ol' belly flop:

0=-16t^2+15t+12

a = -16    b = 15     c = 12   for the Quadratic Formula

$$t = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}$$

$$t = {-15 \pm \sqrt{15^2-4(-16)(12)} \over 2(-16)}$$

if you do the calculation,      t =    15/32   +  $$\sqrt{993}$$ /32      = 1.4535 seconds
