On the web2 calc you can just type in the | symbol off your keyboard.  It is above the backslash.  :)

eg

$${\left|-{\mathtt{6}}\right|} = {\mathtt{6}}$$

One way is to take the square root after you've squared it.

Some calculators have the abs() function for returning the absolute value.
