why is pi called pi?

yes i play oboe. my friends used to joke and call me a dying duck. Now it's just the oboeduck

Why don't you google it and tell us the answer?  I would like to know if there is a reason too.  :)

1. It was first  called " pi" in 1706 by [the Welsh mathematician] William Jones, because  pi is the first letter in the Greek word perimitros, which means "perimeter." It's a special number.
