Josie's checking account balance is 535.23. She deposits a check for 97.83. She then writes a check for 299.98 for a new bicycle and uses her credit card to withdraw $40.00. What is the net change in Josie's account?

Thanks.

535.23 + 97.83 - 299.98 -40.00 = current balance

She starts with 535.23 and then adds 97.83 by depositing a check. Then she writes a check to someone for 299.98, which subtracts that from her account. and finally she withdraws 40.00.

535.23 +97.83 - 299.98 - 40.00 = X

633.06 - 299.98 - 40.00=X

333.08 - 40.00 =X

X = 293.08

Hi Mathicorn and Someone special. (You are special, everyone is)

Special, you have found out how much money is in the account but that was not the question.
The net change is +97.83 - 299.98 - 40 = -242.15

Thanks again, Melody. Sorry for that slip up; I'm trying to help, but I'm kind of known for making stupid mistakes like that. I'll try to go slower next time.
