A carpenter has a 6-foot long board. He wants to cut the board into pieces that are 4/5 foot long. What length of the original board will be left after the carpenter has cut all the pieces that are 4/5 foot long?

6 / (4/5) =6 x 5/4 =30/4 = 7 number of boards that are 4/5 foot long

6 - (7*4/5) =

6 - 5.6 =0.4 foot left over. Or 0.4 x 10/10 =4/10 =2/5 of a foot left over.
