The table shows the cost y (in dollars) of x pounds of sunflower seeds.

Write a linear function that represents the cost of y of x pounds of seeds.Interpret the slope.

Pounds,x Cost,y
2 , 2.80
3 , 4.20
4 , 5.60

Since the cost increases $1.40 for each pound increase in seed, the slope is the change in cost/per change in seed weight. 1.4/1 or 7/5 All you need to find is the y intercept. This is obvious since the y intercept is where x (the pounds of seed) is zero. Cost=1.4 times pounds So the linear equation is y=7/5x + 0 So just Y=7/5X
The slope is the rate of increase of cost as pounds increases.
