I need help with this word problem (You might have to scroll down it is the bottom problem) I need to know how you did it not just he answer
The question in made up of 12 indentical rectangles what fraction of the figure is shaded
PLEASE I NEED HELP
Well the rectangles appear to be squares.....
Let their side length = 1
So the top left shading is a triangle with a base of 6 and a height of 1
So its area =(1/2) (6)(1) = 3
The bottom right shading has as base of 3 and a height of 1....so its area= (1/2)(3)(1) =3/2
And the two shaded square each have an area of 1 so their combined area = 2
And the total area = the area of 12 squares with a side of 1 =12
So
shaded area to total area = ( 3 + 3/2 + 2) /12 = ( 6.5) /12 = 13/24
