2.1 x 4.5 = 9.45

There is one decimal place in the first multiplier and one in the second and you add them together so there are two in the product

 

2.1 x 0.45 = 0.945

(1) +   (2)  =   (3)

 

2.1 x 45 = 94.5

(1) + (0) =  (1)
