After you rearrange it to read

$${{\mathtt{x}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}\left({\mathtt{12}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{x}}\right){\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{16}} = {\mathtt{0}}$$

You will see that it cannot easily be factored. You must use the Quadratic Formula.

This results in (x-10.47)(x-1.53)

Any error is because of rounding.
