The electrician charges $70 per hour plus a $35 service fee. The total cost, c, for t hours of work ia given by the equation:
x=70t+35
If the total cost of the electrician's last job was $245, how many hours did he work ?
First, we replace x with 245.
So x = 70t + 35 becomes:
245 = 70t + 35
Next, we isolate the variable, t.
So we take away 35 from both sides:
245 - 35 = 70t + 35 - 35
210 = 70t
Than we divide each side by 70, so t is alone:
210/70 = 70t/70
3 = t
And that's what t, or the hours worked was!
245 = 70t + 35 subtract 35 from both sides
210 = 70t divide by 70 on both sides
3 = t (3 hrs. )
You're right; a subtraction error on my part. I knew it had to be a whole number and I'll fix mine.
You only made a slight subtraction error, Mathematician.....I still gave you points for good effort !!!
Of course, "close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades." Especially for math. Or something like that...
