x and y intercept

Problem:  find the x- and y-intercepts of  8x - 2y  =  24.

 

To find the x-intercept, substitute  0  for  y:  8x - 2(0)  =  24

                                                                               8x - 0  =  24

                                                                                    8x  =  24

                                                                                       x  =  3     --->     (3, 0)

 

To find the y-intercept, substitute  0  for  x:  8(0) - 2y  =  24

                                                                              0 - 2y  =  24

                                                                                  -2y  =  24

                                                                                     y  =  -12     --->     (0, -12)
