Add 32/x to both sides of the equation to get:

40/x -3 =2   then add 3 to each side

40/x = 5   Multiply both sides by x to arrive at:

40 = 5x   then divide both sides by 5 to get.......?

Solve for x:
8/x-3 = 2-32/x

Bring 8/x-3 together using the common denominator x. Bring 2-32/x together using the common denominator x:
(8-3 x)/x = (2 (x-16))/x

Multiply both sides by x:
8-3 x = 2 (x-16)

Expand out terms of the right hand side:
8-3 x = 2 x-32

Subtract 2 x+8 from both sides:
-5 x = -40

Divide both sides by -5:
Answer: | x = 8
