When we divide two numbers that have exponets, and they have the same base, (here their same base is y) we can subtract the exponets. So, this would be solved like so:

 

$$y^3 \div y^2$$

 

$$y^{3-2}$$

 

$$y^1$$

 

or just:

 

$$y$$
