y - 8 =  (x + 3)^2

Vertex: (3,-8)

Did i do it right?

You were half right when you did the other problem.....now you've gone further....you have BOTH of the signs reversed...

-3 , +8

Let's try this approach, Hayley......I realize that I might have confused you

(y - 8)   = (x + 3)^2

Take the opposite of each number in the parentheses

Opposite  of   + 3   = - 3

Opposite of -8   = 8

So the vertex   =  (-3, 8)

Another example

( y  + 6)  = (x + 7)^2

Opposite  of +7   = -7

Opposite of +6  = -6

Vertex = ( -7 , -6)

Try this one

( y  - 2 )   = ( x+ 5)^2

Excellent!!!!!!

Here's a few more

(y - 4)  = (x + 4)^2

(y + 2)  = (x - 3)^2

(y - 3)  = (x + 20)^2

(y + 1/2)  =  (x  - 3/4)^2           Hint :  remember,   the opposite of 2/5  =  -2/5
