You ride your bike 2½ miles from your house to school. In the first 5 minutes, you ride ¾ mile. In the next 5 minutes you ride ⅝ mile. How far are you from the school in 10 minutes?
Quite simple really!
Add your first 5 minutes "ride" (3/4) and your second "ride''(5/8)
3/4 + 5/8 = 1.375
So in 10 minutes, the dude on the bike went 1.375 miles.
if the school is 2.5 (2 and a half...) miles away, from here you simple subtract
2.5 total mines MINUS the 1.375 miles you already rode.
Gives you an answer of 1.125 miles left!
