What you need to do is complete the squares

\(x^2 + y^2 + 8x - 12y + 27 = 0\\ x^2 + y^2 + 8x - 12y=-27\\ (x^2 + 8x+ number1)+ (y^2 - 12y+number2)=-27+number 1 +number2\\ \)

You have to find the numbers that turn those expressions into perfect squares.

Can you do that?

There are some little bars in the right hand side of the display on the calculator.

Asker, if you have problems with Rom's instructions and you need more help then you need to say so.  

But think about it a little first :))

Just expand the LHS using the cos(A-B) identity (which I expect is in the formulary page on this site (or you can google it)

and simplify to show it equals sin x

Maybe you can explain where your problems lies?

One reason that this looks so intimidating is it has all those decimals.    Yuck!

If you multiply both sides by 100 they will all 'disappear'   Magic!

Do that first, if you still do not know what to do next then post again (on this thread) but maybe it will look more normal then and you will be able to finsih it yourself.  

Don't let the large numbers intimidate you.  Think about what you would do if the nmumbers were little and less scary and then do the same thing!   :)

Why is the 1.5 in brackets.  The meaning is not clear.

why is 82 divided by 0.25 equals to a bigger number?

This means.  How many quarters are there in 82 wholes.

Well there are 4 quarters in 1 whole thing

there are 4*2=8 quarters in 2 whole things

so there must be 4*82 quarters in 82 whole things.   :))
