\(y=x^2*4x-5\\ y=4x^3-5\)

\(x=2y^2*5y-59\\ x=10y^3-59\)

I do not know what youare after but here is how you can map from one to the other

\(y=4x^3-5 \)

multiply all the y vaues by 2.5.  that means it gets vertically stretched by  a factor of 2.5

\(y=2.5(4x^3-5)\)

Now drop the whole graph by 46.5 units

\(y=2.5(4x^3-5) - 46.5\)

Now simplify the last equation

\(y=10x^3-59\)

Now reflect this last graph in the line y=x

and you get

\(x=10y^3-59\)

And that is how you can transform the graph       \(y=4x^3-5\qquad  into \qquad  x=10y^3-59\)

Does the rule "whatever you do to one side you have to do to the other side" always apply in math?

It is for solving equations.

Equations have to balance.

e.g.   If you take 5 of one side you have to take 5 off the other side as well or it won't 'balance' any more

Think of it like those old fashioned scales that have to balance.  Equations must always balance

eg

if

x=8

then

x+3=8+3

x/6=8/6

etc.

they won't be equal anymore if you do not do the same thing to both sides.

Yes, more or less :)    It certainly means I am wrapping up the past and moving into the future :)

I try to go through the days post and make sure that the member posts are just abut all answered and no super interesting post have been mised out. 

I also collect the answerers names and give out stars.

It does not get done as well as I would like, the forum is to busy, but I do the best I can and then I write a wrap.  

I usually write the wrap in my evening.   :)

I am listening to Dance Macabre, by Saint-Saens.

 I can here the skeletons dancing. :)

And then I can hear where it is all very sad because all the skeletons have to go back to their graves before the sun comes up. :(

No I am not spiderman   

My icon is of 2 Crimson Rosellas (parrots). They live in the Blue Mountains which is not far away form where I live in Sydney :)

Maybe they are red and blue because THEY want to be spiderman  !!?!!

How about I try and explain with an easier one.

Let the numbers be 2, 3, 5, and 8  and the magic number that you have to make is 18

Just maybe you might be able to make it just by multiplying things together.

So I will look for all the prime factors of 18

18=2*3*3

we have the 2 and we have one 3

and we have 8 and 5  is we put them together as (8-5) then we have another 3

so one answer would be     18=2*3*(8-5)         

Maybe you would like to try this one.    (This is not for big kids who are good at maths)    

The numbers are  1,4,2,3,and 6 and the magic number is 27
