If you want to know how to do it on most hand held calculators you use the degrees, minutes, seconds button. (DMS for short)
It looks like this

so you would press 5 DMS 15 DMS

You can use this button for time calculations as well

Hi Chris and Andy,
i think something might be missing too but maybe not.

If 1/12 of the pay goes in each month then
1 months pay goes in each year and
10 months pay goes in in 10 years.

Do you think that this is what you want Andy?

Hi all,
It seems the questions are already starting to thin out for the week.
Still there were lots of great answers from Rom, Samgelinas, CPhill, Alan, Hello, ifrogot1 and Pasc. Thank you all.
Amber6198 also gave Rom a nice thank you. It is great when people show their appreciation.

I am still very keen for everyone to make the best use of the buttons above the smilies.
I think the 'sub' and 'sup' buttons are especially important - they make questions and answers so much easier to read!
I wrote a post a couple of days ago to explain how to use these buttons. I think some people could add to this as I actually don't know how to use them all myself.
Could everyone please read this post and learn from it or add to it if possible.

If you ate 2 cup cakes in 1/4 of an hour wouldn't that be the same as 2*4 cupcakes in a whole hour?

So if you travel 7/8 miles in a 1/4 of an hour. how far would you travel in 1 whole hour? Try to use the cupcake logic.

Tell me what you think the answer is and I will tell you if it is correct.

2 ^x + 2 ^4-x = 10

2 ^x2 ^x + 2 ⁴ = 10*2 ^x

(2 ^x) ² - 10*2 ^x + 16 = 0

Let g=2 ^x

g ² - 10g + 16 = 0

So i need 2 numbers that multply to +16 and add to -10
They are -8 and -2 so

(g-8)(g-2)=0
g=8 or g=2

8=2 ^x or 2=2 ^x
2 ³=2 ^x or 2 ¹=2 ^x
x=3 or x=1
now y=4-x
so
x=3, y=1 OR x=1. y=3
solutions are (3,1) or (1,3)
