Let's have b = current brother's age and s = current sister's age.

The brothers age is twice his sisters age, so we have:

b = 2s

In 6 years, the brothers age will be 5 times his sisters age...as she was 3 years ago.

6 + b = 5(s-3)              ---Now just simplify a little bit

6 + b = 5s - 15

21 + b = 5s

So how we have two equations.

b = 2s 

and

21 + b = 5s

Let's solve this by elimiation. Multiply the first equation by a negative

b = 2s 

-b = -2s

21 + b = 5s          ---Second equation

21 = 3s

7 = s

The sisters age is 7. Let's put in this for s in the first equation and solve for b (which is the brothers age)

b = 2s 

b = 2(7)

b = 14

So the sister is 7 years old and the brother is 14 years old.

We want to solve for d. This means we want d alone on one side.

If we subtract 6 from 3, we get -3.

Pretend these are dolars. So we have $3. We then pay someone 6$. How many dolars do you have left?

Well, we pay them the three we have, but then we owe them $3, because they still need $6 total.

We owe them 3 dolars, or we have -3 dolars.

Now let's just put a dot where -3 is on a number line.

Another way to look at this would be we started with 3 (blue dot) and we subtract 6, or move 6 to the left to get our red dot...which is -3

Either way you do it, -3 (which is the red dot) is your answer.

You have to tell us which measurement you want this converted to.

You can actually do this on the website's calculator. Here's how:

To find the area of a rectangle, you have to multiply the length times the width.

This means that we can find the width by dividing the area by the length.

The area is 44 cm², and the length is 4 cm.

$$44\;cm^2 \div 4\;cm = 11\;cm$$

So the width is 11 cm.

Just to add to this, here's how you turn 14 and 2/3 into an improper fraction:

First multiply 14 times 3, add 2 to that number, and put that number over 3.

$$14\frac{2}{3}=\frac{(14\times 3)+2}{3} = \frac{(42)+2}{3}=\frac{44}{3}$$

Alright, we have to start with multiplying 9 x (-2). When you have a number in front of parentheses, you have to multiply those numbers. We do this first because parentheses comes before our other operations in the order of operations. To remember the order of operations, remember PEMDAS!

Let's mutliply this out.

1/3n+9(-2)=-2/3n+7

1/3n+(-18)=-2/3n+7        ---Add 2/3n to both sides. This "clears" -2/3n from the right side

+2/3n          +2/3n          ---1/3n plus 2/3n is really just n, because it comes out to 3/3n, and 3/3 is equivalent to 1

n +(-18) = 7                    ---Now we add 18 to both sides. This "clears" -18 from the left side

     +18     +18

n = 25
