This actually factors quite nicely Melody:  x2 + 7x - 144 → (x + 16)*(x - 9) so:

(x + 16)*(x - 9) = 0

x = -16 or x = 9

.

144=7x+x^2

$$\\144=7x+x^2\\
x^2+7x-144=0\\
1x^2+7x-144=0\\$$

I'd just use the quadratic formula to solve it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8ezDEk3qCg

a=1   b=7 and c=-144

just put x out the front - they didn't do that in the video.

So it does - thanks Alan.

The quadratic formula will still work though.  :)
