2^4x-1=7   add 1 to both sides

2^4x  = 8        and we can write 8  as 2^3  ....so we have...

2^4x  = 2^3      and, because the bases are the same,  we can equate exponents

4x  = 3       divide by 4 on both sides

x = 3/4
