You have two denominators,  14  and  28;  find a common denominator for them and multiply both sides by this number; then, there will be no more fractions.  So, multiply both sides by 28:

     28 · (5x/14)  =  28 · (5/28)

     Since 28 · 5 / 14  =  10      and     28 · 5 / 28  =  5

--->    10x  =  5           (Now, divide both sides by 10.)

--->   x  =  0.5
