Looks like the Law of Cosines:

7^2 = 49

14^2 = 196

12^2 = 144

2x14x12 = 336

49  =  196 + 144 - 336cos(X)

49  =  340 - 336cos(X)              (Don't subtract the 336 from the 340!)

-291  =  -336cos(X)

0.8661  =  cos(X)

X = cos-1(0.8661)  --->   X  =  30°
