There are 4 times as many cows as horse. the number of chicken is 12 times greater than the number of cows. the number of cows, horse, and pigs combined is 2 less than the number of chicken. there 54 animals in all.

Let cows = x    chickens = y   pigs = w    horses  = z

So, we have :

x + y + z + w = 54     (1)

4z = x    →  z  =  x/4

12x = y

x + z + w  + 2 =  y    →  w = y - z - x - 2  → w = 12x - x/4  - x - 2

So   substituting for y, z and w in (1), we have

x + 12x +x/4 + 12x - x/4 - x - 2  = 54

24x  - 2 = 54

24x = 56

x = 56/24  = 7/3 .......Sorry, I can't get the numbers to "work".....are you sure the info is correct???

cool cool cool
