14v+6=2(5+7v)-4

 

Let's simplify the right side. Start by dividing both sides by 2.

 

7v+3=(5+7v)-2

 

Then add 2 to both sides

 

7v+5=5+7v

 

from here you see that they are exactly equal to each other so you could stop and say v=1

 

but that doesnt always happen so lets continue. subtract 5 from both sides

 

7v=7v

 

divide both sides by 7

 

v=v

 

1v/1v the v's cancel and you get 1. v=1

"Guest" did a pretty good job, but when he gets to this:

 

7v+5=5+7v  

 

We have an identity.......both sides are exactly the same...so......any value of v will  make this equation true....!!!
