consider the curve y=x^2-3x+2. The crosses the x-axis at two points (a,0) and (b,0) and the y-axis at a poiny (0,c). determine coordinates of these three points.

y  =  x2 - 3x + 2

To find the roots (a,0) and (b,0), let y = 0:

y  =  x2 - 3x + 2      --->     0  =  x2 - 3x + 2      --->     0  = (x - 2)(x - 1)

                                                                       --->          x = 2  or  x = 1     --->     (2,0) and (1, 0)

The point where the graph crosses the y-axis has an x-value of 0:

y  =  02 - 3(0) + 2     --->     y = 2      --->     (0,2)

a = 1 and b = 2 and c = 2     or     a = 2 and b = 1 and c = 2
