Could Someone please tell me why -1 to the second power is -1? I had this issue on my homework and I don't understand why. Shouldn't -1 * -1 equal positive 1?

-1^2=+1

Where are you getting your answer from as being -1?.

If you are using the web2.0 calculator you have to enter it like this:

 

(-1)^2     otherwise it will give you THIS answer:      -  (1^2)
