A straight line can be written in the form  y = m*x + c where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept.

The slope is given by rise over run, so here, m = 2/3.  Therefore the straight line in this case is:

y = 2x/3 + c

To find the value of c we use the fact that the point (2,5) is on the line. (i.e. y = 5 when x = 2)

5 = 2*2/3 + c     or 5 = 4/3 + c

Subtract 4/3 from both sides

c = 5 - 4/3  or c = 11/3

The line is therefore given by the equation    y = 2x/3 + 11/3

To find another point on the line choose a value for x and calculate the corresponding value of y.

For example,  if x = 1 then y = 2*1/3 + 11/3  or y = 13/3  so the point (1, 13/3) is on the line.

Find another point by choosing another value for x.

To find another point on the line choose a value for x and calculate the corresponding value of y.

For example,  if x = 1 then y = 2*1/3 + 11/3  or y = 13/3  so the point (1, 13/3) is on the line.

Find another point by choosing another value for x.
