Find the Distance between points (-2, -9) and (4, -3) to the nearest tenth.
Show work. (help please?)

 

We have the points P1 and P2 :

\(\begin{array}{|rcll|} \hline P_1 &=& (x_1, y_1) \\ &=& (4, -3) \\\\ P_2 &=& (x_2, y_2) \\ &=& (-2, -9) \\ \hline \end{array}\)

 

Formula to find the Distance between these Points is:

\(\begin{array}{|rcll|} \hline && \sqrt{(x_1-x_2)^2+ (y_1-y_2)^2} \\\\ &=& \sqrt{[4-(-2)]^2+ [-3-(-9)]^2} \\\\ &=& \sqrt{(4+2)^2+ (-3+9)^2} \\\\ &=& \sqrt{6^2+ 6^2} \\\\ &=& \sqrt{2\cdot 6^2} \\\\ &=& \sqrt{2}\cdot \sqrt{6^2} \\\\ &=& \sqrt{2}\cdot 6 \\\\ &=& 1.41421356237\cdot 6 \\\\ &=& 8.48528137424 \\ \hline \end{array}\)

 

The distance to the nearest tenth is 8.5
