We can just  solve this

 

[ y  -5 ]   / [  8 -  - 2  ]  =   -1/5

 

[ y - 5 ]  /  10  =  -1/5        multiply both sides  by 10

 

y  - 5   =     -2       add 5 to both sides

 

y =   3
