 Finding Percentage

I am asked to find a percentage of how much a regular priced item would be if a discounted dollar amount is given.  So, if a sony laptop is 699.99 and there is a discount of 100.00...it says the percentage discount of the total amount is 14.30%.  How did they find the percentage????

To find the percentage of discount divide the amount of discount ($100.00) by the original amount ($699.99):     100.00 / 699.99  =  0.142859...  =  14.29 % (rounded)

--  which can be rounded to  14.3%
