when doing these align them just like adding then cancel in this case you can't cancel because non of these numbers have simliar factors...so we multiply the numerators together and do the same with the denominators.   5 over 24    5/24 and this dosen't reduce better so we leave it as 5/24

5/8 * 1/3 

First multiply the numerators 

5/8*1/3 

5 * 1 = 5

so a numerator of 5

then mutiply the denopinators 

8*3 = 24

5/24

As a decimal = 0.208
