Guest #1's answer is correct but he/she didn't state what is mean by what.

d is the distance

x1 is the x-coordinate value of the 1st point(You can choose any point as your first point.)

x2 is the x-coordinate value of the 2nd point(It is just another end-point of the line segment.)

y1 is the y-coordinate value of the 1st point

y2 ​is the y-coordinate value of the 2st point

It is just an application of Pythagorean theorem but it is really useful.
