5{24/4[(3+27-5)+(74-12)]}

Hello mathnovice,

Just do the things that you can easily see are inside a bracket. Once there is just a number in a bracket then you can usually get rid of that pair of brackets.

=5{24/4[( 3+27-5)+( 74-12)]}

The blue bitsare completely inside a bracket lets do those bits first

=5{24/4[(25)+(62)]}

=5{24/4[ 25+62]}

=5{24/4[ 87]}

I can't get rid of the bracket straight away because then the 4 and the 87 would come together to make 487 which is definitely not right.
Between the 4 and the bracket is an invisable multiply sign. We had better put that in - and the n we can get rid of the bracket around the 87.

=5{24/4* 87}

Now you can just do what is left inside the bracket and then multiply the answer by 5.
