The surface area of the prism is ______ square units. All measurements in the image below are in units. (Input whole number only.)

A triangular prism is shown with 2 right triangular sides having legs 3 and 4 and hypotenuse 5. The length of the prism is 3.5

To calculate the surface area you have to find the area of each side so there are by the looks to right triangles that are identical and three rectangles.

let's find the area of the two right triangles!

The fromula for a triangle is

\( B*H*\frac{1}{2}\)

so

\(4 *3 = 12 * \frac{1}{2} = 6 squnits\)

and the triangle on the other side of the prisim is identicale so we add 6 + 6 = 12

now we only have three rectangles to do so the fromula for calculating the areag of a rectangle is

\(length * with\)

and the one rectangle that lies on both triangles hynoptuses is 5 square units long and 3.5 wide. so

\(5 * 3.5 = 17.5\)

now are current value so far is 12 + 17.5 = 29.5

The next rectangle on the bottom of the prism appears to be 3 square units long and 3.5 wide

\(3*3.5 = 10.5\)

adding that up we now have 29.5 + 10.5 = 40 square units

We now have only 1 more rectangle left which is

4 square units long and 3.5 square units wide.

\(4*3.5 = 14\)

40 + 14 = 54 Square units
