We have:

\(\frac{x}{y}=\frac{3}{7}\)

which means that \(y=\frac{7}{3}x\)

Use this in y - x = 56 to get \(\frac{7}{3}x-x=56 \rightarrow\frac{4}{3}x=56\rightarrow x=\frac{3\times56}{4}\rightarrow x=3\times14\rightarrow x=42\)

Use this in y - x = 56 to get  y - 42 = 56 or y = 98

x:y = 3:7

y-x = 56

The answer is;

y-x = 7-3

      = 4

y-x = 56/4

      = 14

x = 14x3

      =42 #
