if u buy the 28 oz, then each ounce of peanut butter (omnomnom) is 8 cents. but... the 32 oz is 7 cents (7.5 cents, to be more precise) per ounce. so the 32 oz would be better! :D

One way is to compare the price per ounce; the one with the lowest price per ounce is the better buy:

$2.24 / 28  =  0.08 cents per ounce

$2.40 / 32  =  0.075 cents per ounce    <---  the  better buy
