1152 grams of iron are required to make the alloy when combined with 144 grams of zinc

We will use the proportion to solve the problem

Let x2 be the quantity of iron when combined with 144 grams of zinc

So,

zinc in first alloy = z1 = 9 gm

Iron in first alloy = x1 = 72 gm

Zinc in second alloy = 144 gm

\(x_1:z_1::x_2:z_2\\72:9:: x_2 : 144\\\frac{72}{9} = \frac{x_2}{144}\\8 = \frac{x_2}{144}\\x_2 = 144*8\\x_2 = 1152\)
