For f(x)=x^2+x+1. This polynomial has two different roots r1 and r2. Find all the values of x- for which the sequence approaches reach r1; for which the sequence approaches r2; and for which the sequence does not approach any root (the set of exceptional points). Try to repeat this for a general quadratic polynomial which you know has not repeated roots. Explore the same question for f(x)=x^3-1.
