3<x+3<9

 

This has two answers so do it in 2 parts

-3<x+3 and x+3<9

 

First part aka first step

 

-3<x+3

x+3-3>-3-3

(x>-6)

Then do this

x+3-3<9-3

x+3<9

subtract 3 from both sides

x<6

 

so the two answers are

 (x>-6) and (x<6)

 

Then combine them like this

-6<x<6

Hayley, that is a really good answer but you made it a little more difficult than necessary.

 

You did not need to break it up.

 

-3 < x + 3 < 9

 

just add 3 to all three 'sides'

 

-3-3 < x + 3 -3< 9-3

-6<x<6
