Brian is thinking of a number. He multiplies it by 3 then + 7. His answer is less than 17.

WHAT IS THE LARGEST WHOLE NUMBER HE COULD BE THINKING OF?

Thanks

x  = the number

3 * x  + 7 < 17    subtract 7 from both sides

3*x < 10

x< 3.3333        so x < 4   Largest number would be 3

Let's call the answer x.

x*3+7=3x+7<17

3x<10

x<10/3

The largest number is 3.

You are very welcome!
