width = w

length = L

L = 2w - 3

area is length times width

464 = Lw

464 = (2w - 3)(w)

464 = 2w2 - 3w

2w2 - 3w - 464 = 0

you can use the quadratic equation to solve for w

w= 16 and w = -14.5

since width can't be negative, we know its 16.

now just plug in the w value that you found to find the length

464 = 16L

divide by 16

L = 29

16 by 29

L = 2W - 3    so

464  = L * W

464 = [2W - 3] * W

464  = 2W^2 - 3W        rearrange  as

2W^2 - 3W - 464 =  0    factor

(2W + 29) (W - 16)  = 0     set the second factor to 0 and W  = 16 m

And L = 2W  - 3  =  2(16) - 3  =  29 m

cool cool cool
