Hello everyone Here's a huge probleme I am struggling with since 4 days now ! :(
If someone could help and explain it would be a huge gift for me! Thank you !
An approximate linear model that gives the remaining distance, in miles, a plane must travel from Los Angeles to Boston is given by s(t) = 9000 - 600t where s(t) is the remaining distance t hours after the flight begins.
(a) Find the veritcal and horizontal intercepts of s(t)
(b) Explain what the horizontal and vertical interecept of s(t) represent in the context of this probleme
I guess I will just said that y = 90000 ( the miles ) and x = ( 600 ) Hours ? Right ? In a sentence of course !
(c) Find the slope of s(t)
(d) Explain what the slope of s(t) represents in the context of this probleme ( I'll do a sentence again ! )
I really need help for that ! Please Help me ! :(
Thank you Maths people ! :)
Here's the graph..........https://www.desmos.com/calculator/zysdb0bmhq
a) The "vertical" intercept is at (0, 9000) ad the "horizontal" intercept occurs at (15, 0)
b) The vertical intercept is interpreted as the distance remaining between the cities at the start of the flight [ where t = 0 ].....this is 9000 miles
The horizontal intercept is the number of hours it takes to complete the trip [ t = 15]....note that, at that time, the remaining distance between the cities = 0
c) The slope = -600.....this means that, for every hour of flight, the distance between the cities is lessened by 600 miles.....
Note the logic here : 15 hrs x 600miles per hour = 9000 miles of the whole trip covered
Hope that helps......
P.S. - In reality, Los Angeles to Boston is WAY LESS than 9000 miles !!!!
