Bill and Mary went to the farmers market to buy fruit for their lunch at school next week. Bill bought 5 apples. Mary bought 2 apples and spent $1.86 for a container of blueberries. If they spent equal amounts at the market, write and solve an equation that will determine the cost of one apple.

Let the cost of 1 apple=A
Bill bought=5A apples
Mary bought=2A + 1.86
5A=2A + 1.86
3A=1.86 divide both sides by 3
A=1.86/3
A=.62 cents- cost of 1 apple
