how do i do an exponnt

The exponent symbol is  ^      or   $$x^y$$

example:

$${{\mathtt{5}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}} = {\mathtt{5}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{5}}$$...then you solve 5 • 5 = 25
