Any terminating number can be converted to scientific notation. In essense, scientific notation is a notation in which a number is expressed by a number, either negative or positive, with an absolute value being greater than or equal to 1 and less than 10, multiplied by an exponent of 10. For results less than one, the exponent is obviously negative, and for results greater than one, the exponent is positive.
ex. 1234 = 1.234 X 10 to the power of three
ex. .01234 = 1.234 X 10 to the power of negative two
