There are many ways to do so. I simply get the number and mutiply it with the percentage in decimal. For Example: 1 is 100%, 0.4 is 40% ect.
if you were to find 40 percent of 500 you would do this:
$${\mathtt{500}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{0.4}} = {\mathtt{200}}$$
40% of 500 would be 200
